MPbase is a wholly new way to define and handle data to and from
a media storage device and a network. As a technology, it changes
all the traditional rules involved with storing, accessing and
managing data in any other commercially available manner. Comparisons
to current DBMS architectures are generally unproductive as MPbase
functions differently and is architecturally different than traditional
Database Products.
Most importantly, MPbase represents a giant leap forward in the
use and performance of data at the application level and the simplicity
surrounding it's definition, structure, distribution, storage,
tuning, management and fault tolerance. In simple terms, approximately
95% of the design considerations, processes and activities involved
in the implementation, maintenance and growth of traditional database
engines are done away with.
MPbase has the potential to obsolete all other methods of dealing
with data.
MPbase resides entirely as the thinnest possible veneer on top of UNIX. The Database as a separate layer, or Operating System on top of the Operating System does not exist. In it's raw form MPbase can exist on any computer that runs C.
MPbase can run self contained as a component of a network attached I/O subsystem and relieves the Application Server of all data handling activities. More performance, less server, less network, fewer packets. MPbase, network attached and communicating via TCP/IP, need not reside in the same space as the application it is servicing. Further, MPbase can be truly distributed, with parts of the same database in different network locations; and act as if it were centralized.
MPbase supports a content addressable schema along with a compressed common data format that together form a data structure that is spectacularly efficient and economical. More information {data } less physical storage, less bandwidth, higher performance, significant management and cost savings.
MPbase supports the naturalization of Data, not the normalization of data. This provides an environment where only information content is stored not the data. Given the supporting compression, the full data content can be recovered and represented at the view level which is separate from the way the data or information is stored.
A single representation of the data in MPbase can be represented as multiple external views. Data can be common between an EBCDIC mainframe, a Unix and an NT application platform. Data can also be common to all application types and interfaces and all can function simultaneously while maintaining industry leading performance.
MPbase can accommodate a straight data load and perform equal to or faster than a flat file environment. It will also accommodate transaction, Query and batch applications in a significantly higher performance environment than any RDBMS.
MPbase significantly boosts the effective performance of a network.
Most support functions i.e., journaling, back up, mirroring, load balancing, geographic mirroring and performance monitoring are byproducts of the MPbase environment, no tools in these areas because none required.
MPbase accommodates all data (quantities, types and formats ). Even data that would normally require an external Big Binary Blob can be stored and accessed inside an MPbase at the individual datapoint level. As an example, an image stored in an MPbase can be accesssed at the individual pixel/color level. This allows a single stored image to be viewed at any needed or controled resolution. Such an image can be analyzed at the pixel level while still in the MPbase.
MPbase is better at everything than any other data handling architecture, which allows it to be comfortably and appropriately considered for any and all applications involving data or information.
MPbase can reside across an infinite number of UNIX PC or Workstation nodes and support an infinite storage capacity, while assuring a linear or better performance environment as the environment grows or as the requirement for performance increases.
MPbase can accommodate any level of required performance and becomes production environment predictable at the prototype stage.
MPbase saves millions of dollars in hardware and network infrastructure
costs and at least as much and probably a lot more in recurring
personnel and project costs.
